Microbiome Analyses
Sequencing and bioinformatics

About
MOMA provides microbiome analysis services, based on DNA/RNA sequencing and data analyses.
We offer a range of sequencing applications, including:
- Amplicon sequencing (e.g. 16S)
- Shotgun metagenomic sequencing (MGX)
- Transcriptomic sequencing (MTX)
These services can be combined with tailored bioinformatic and statistical analysis. We also support development of novel methodologies, protocols and bioinformatic solutions.
Our experienced team provides guidance and support for microbiome projects from study design to data interpretation.
All services are offered on a non-profit basis to research groups and clinical departments within public institutions.
Sampling and Biobanking
We can handle most common sample types and can support with sample collection kits and biobanking if needed.
Sequencing Analysis
Our laboratory covers every step from DNA/RNA-extraction and library preparation to the actual sequencing. Alternatively, we can start with e.g. your DNA samples or just perform sequencing of pre-prepared libraries.
Bioinformatic data analysis
MOMA offers bioinformatics data analysis using dedicated pipelines tailored to each project. The analyses may include data cleanup, taxonomic and functional profiling as well as downstream biostatistical analyses with generation of figures and tables.
Publication Policy
The use of data and results generated by MOMA services in publications requires acknowledgement of the center. A suggested acknowledgement is:
DNA/RNA sequencing / Bioinformatics / Statistical alanalyses were performed by the MOMA Core Center, Department of MolecularMedicine, Aarhus University Hospital, Denmark.

CASE Stories
INSPIRE CHILD
INSPIRE CHILD is a research project anchored at the Danish Center of Pediatric Pulmonology and Allergology at Aarhus University Hospital.
The project focuses on children’s lung health and investigates the relationship between lung diseases and microbes (the microbiome), inflammatory substances (cytokines), and the immune constituents within children’s lungs.
MOMA contributes with a custom protocol for metagenomic and metatranscriptomic sequencing of bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) samples and customized bioinformaticanalyses.

CHIFT
ChiFT is a multicentre, randomised, placebo-controlled clinical trial testing the efficacy of faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) for patients with decompensated livercirrhosis.
Longitudinal saliva and stool samples are collected to study changes in the gut microbiome.
The project is anchored at the Department of Hepatology and Gastroenterology at Aarhus University Hospital.
MOMA contributes with metagenomic sequencing as well as bioinformatic and statistical analyses of the microbiome data. Initially to describe changes in the gut microbiome in patients with liver cirrhosis, including antibiotic resistance genes and virulence factors, and later to describe gut microbiome changes during the intervention, engraftment of the donor microbiome, and associations with successful clinical response to FMT.
